Places to Give This Christmas

Onnuri English Ministry (OEM) is seeking to change how we give during Christmas. Instead of spending a lot of money on things we don't need to get gifts for people who don't need them, we'd love to see the Church begin giving generously to those in need. I would love to see a revolution in the Church today concerning the way we give and care for those in need - being Christ to them. Here are just a few places you can give this Christmas that will make a difference in the lives of many:

1. Not for Sale (A group dedicated to ending modern day slavery and human trafficking).  There are more than 30 million people who are enslaved today (most of them are young women and children). Help bring freedom to someone today.

2. Barnabas Trading in Partnership with World Vision. $10 will help give warm boots to a child in Mongolia while at the same time, help provide a job to someone in North Korea. A great way to help two countries in need and a great way to help get your children involved in helping the lives of other children around the world.

3. Voice of Martyrs (Serving the Persecuted Church). Giving to Voice of Martyrs will help bring much needed aid and support for believers who are undergoing great suffering and persecution for their faith.

4. Compassion International (Releasing children from poverty, in Jesus name). A well respected children's ministry serving the poor and helping to restore hopes, dreams and a brighter future for youth around the world.

5. Christian Alliance of Orphans. This ministry serves orphans and helps with adoption and foster care around the world. A more than worthy cause to invest into.

Let's change how we give during the Christmas season and help bring about a change in the life of someone today. It's time for a revolution in the Church today and that revolution begins with you.

Proverbs 17:17

Thanks Sam and Jodie for stopping by to visit today. The friendship and support you've offered to me over the years have meant so much. A friend in need is truly a friend indeed. Sam - you are a huge brother but a gentle child in your heart. Thanks for weeping for the times when I weep. Thanks for rejoicing the times that I rejoice. And thanks Sam and Jodie for always laughing at my jokes - you guys make me feel like I'm funny when I'm with you :) "A friend loves at all times and a brother is born for adversity." (Proverbs 17:17)

The Good News of Judgment Day (Revelation 15:1-8)

10th Anniversary of CGNTV

Congrats to CGNTV for celebrating 10 years of media ministry to the nations. Within 10 short years, CGNTV (Christian Global Network Television) has impacted millions of lives with the Gospel of Jesus Christ in over 150+ nations around the world.

Not only is it bringing the Gospel to unreached places of the world, it has also been a source of great strength and encouragement to missionaries and believers through its services and programming. With thanksgiving and prayer, knowing that greater things are yet to come!

10 Anniversary Gala in Los Angeles

For those in the Los Angeles area, I'd love to encourage you to attend and support the 10th Anniversary Gala of ARM (Advanced Research for Mayopathies) this coming Sunday June 27th at the Marriott Hotel in LAX.

This is to help fund the cure for HIBM (Hereditary Inclusion Body Mayopathy), which is a progressive and debilitating muscle wasting disorder caused by a gene defect. If effects those between the ages of 20-40 years old and typically leads to total disability within 10-15 years.

My friend Kam has this condition and I would be grateful for your prayers, giving and support to help fund a cure of this as soon as possible. Thanks so much.

Audio Books

I love books. I enjoy reading them, listening to them (and Lord willing some day writing them!). Though I had audio books on CD before (and even MP3), my interest in audio books increased much more after iTunes started selling them in their own format (M4B). A big reason for this increased interest was because of their "book mark" feature that let's me pick up where I left off in my listening. It was frustrating to listen to hours or chapters of a book, only to have to "figure out" on the CD or MP3 where I left off before.

Another site that also sells Christian audio books in the M4B format is www.christianaudio.com. What's awesome about this site is that they give away a free audio book per month (and often it's an excellent book - past books offered were: Desiring God by John Piper, Religious Affections by Jonathan Edwards). And most books are available in three download formats (MP3, M4B and WMA). It's definitely worth getting, especially since it's free; and listening to great books while driving or commuting or traveling is a great way to redeem that time. Enjoy and happy listening!

How Douglas Moo Would "Tweet" the Doctrine of Justification

NT scholar Douglas Moo's concise definition of the doctrine of justification:
The Bible pictures all human beings as defendants in a courtroom: a courtroom in which God is the judge and our sins constitute the evidence against us. The judge weighs the evidence and finds every single one of us guilty of sin and announces that we, therefore, must be condemned. The marvellous news of justification is that God has himself provided for us the means of escaping that condemnation: by responding to his gracious initiative in faith, we become joined with Christ, who died for us and was raised for us. We become joined to Christ, who takes on himself the penalty for our sin and covers us with the ‘righteousness’ that we need to reverse the verdict of condemnation and receive the verdict of ‘justified’, ‘right’ with God. And because we have been joined to Christ, the holy one, and have in that union received the gift of God’s powerful holy Spirit, we, who have been justified, also find our lives transformed so that we love God and neighbour.
This was taken from Justin Taylor's blog.

Archives

I created a couple of new archive sites for memory verses (now in ESV: English Standard Version) and for sermons (with handouts and MP3 downloads).  The memory verses follow the Living Life Devotional texts chosen for each month. You can find them in the links below:

How He Loves Us

We are His portion and He is our prize,
Drawn to redemption by the grace in His eyes,
If grace is an ocean, we’re all sinking.
So Heaven meets earth like sloppy wet kiss,
And my heart turns violently inside of my chest,
I don’t have time to maintain these regrets,
When I think about, the way ...

He love us ... O how He loves us ...

ESV Bible Reading Podcasts

I made mention of a couple of podcasts in my sermon this past weekend and wanted to provide the links to those here. The first is called "ESV: Everyday in the Word" which follows the M'Cheyne Bible Reading Plan (the same as our Living Life devotional Bible reading plan). It goes through four Bible passages a day and at the end of the year, you would have read through the whole Old Testament once and the whole New Testament and book of Psalms twice.

The second podcast I mentioned is called "ESV: You've Got the Time". This divides the whole New Testament into 40 segments, with each segment approximately 30 minutes long. Through it, you can go through the whole New Testament in just 40 days! Give it a try. Both of these podcasts provide a great tool for Bible intake during devotions or daily commutes. Enjoy!

How Sermons Work

I found a free e-book recently on preaching called "How Sermons Work". It's by David P. Murray who is Professor of Old Testament and Practical Theology and Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary. It provides a good concise overview of some of the basics of sermon prep that the young preacher might find very useful. I'm always on the look out for new preaching resources and wanted to pass this on to you as well.

A Great Opportunity to Bless Japan with the Gospel

My friend and brother Michael Oh will be preaching for both campuses of OEM next Sunday (March 21). He is president and founder of Christ Bible Seminary in Nagoya, Japan (and was also a speaker for a Desiring God Conference last year).  Several of our OEM members had the privilege of serving with him on a short-term mission trip last year and see first hand the evangelism and discipleship that is happening in that area.

Michael and his team have an awesome opportunity to bring the gospel to the heart of Nagoya through their seminary and church by purchasing a building in downtown Nagoya. We will be taking a love offering this Sunday at our services to help support this great opportunity in furthering the Gospel in Japan.

Please prayerfully come prepared this weekend to give generously to this Kingdom cause. If you are unable to attend our services this weekend, you can give here. Thank you in advance - for God loves a cheerful giver.
