Fasting for Freedom

During this Lent season, our church is fasting for freedom. Today, there are over 30 million slaves around the world, more than at any other time in human history. This is a great injustice and it is time for the Church to take its place and take the lead to help set the captives free.

The Church Must Lead
This is a spiritual battle that must be led by the Church through praying, through fasting, through giving and by being a voice for the voiceless. It is my firm conviction that if we (the Church) are not the preeminent leaders in the fight for justice and in the demonstrations of mercy and grace to the weak, then we are allowing the world to look more like Jesus than we do. Jesus came to set the captives free and only the Gospel can do this. We have been given the Gospel to both proclaim with our words and demonstrate in our lives. We are the light of the world and this light has the power to drive away the darkness. Stand with me and let us pray for the Church to arise out of its slumber. This is our hour. We have been given freedom and influence for such a time as this.

Join Our Fast
We want to follow the example of fasting found in Isaiah 58, where we called upon to not only give up a meal, but also help set the captives free (Isaiah 58:6). Please consider joining us in this Fast for Freedom. During Lent, from Ash Wednesday to Resurrection Sunday (March 9-April 24), fast a meal per day and donate the money you would have spent on the meal towards a freedom project. The Freedom Project we will be giving towards is this:
  • We will be seeking to buy land in Northern Thailand that will provide safety and a brighter future for hundreds of children who were victims of sex trafficking, orphans and at-risk children of human trafficking. The land will also be an agricultural source of food and work-skills development to give these children a sustainable future filled with hope.
  • We will also be using the money to help provide much-needed renovations for a children's village and orphanage in Northern Thailand that provides shelter and care for hundreds of children who were set free from slavery.
This is a great way to impact the lives of hundreds of children and give hope for future generations. Please join us as we pray, fast, and give for freedom.

Freedom Sunday is March 13. Is Your Church Registered?

There are more than 27 million slaves today, more than any other time in human history. This is a great injustice and it's time for the Church to rise up and take its role as leaders in the fight for freedom. We have the means, we have the manpower, but above all else, we have the message of Jesus, our Great Liberator: justice, mercy, love and grace. Let's rise up Church, this is our hour! You can register your church and download resources here.

Family Legacy

Visited my cool grandfather today (on Lunar New Year 2011). A mighty man of God. As an elder (not a pastor - though that was his dream, but because of the Korean War, he had to stop seminary) he planted many churches throughout Korea, is still on the board of directors for many universities, high schools, and hospitals, and raised up 7 children who serve the Lord faithfully to this day. A true hero of the faith.
His prayer was always that God would raise up a pastor in our family. I am the first. I am a product of his prayers, and I thank God for his prayers.

Stop the Super Bowl Traffick

This Sunday is Super Bowl Sunday. The Super Bowl is one of the biggest gatherings for sports fans in the world, but the city that hosts the biggest game of the year is also the place where the largest amount of human and child trafficking happens in the US. The Super Bowl is a magnet for human trafficking each year.

To help raise awareness of the evils of trafficking, Traffick911 will be hosting a Tailgate Party on Saturday February 5 in Dallas (the host city of this years Super Bowl). If you or someone you know is attending the Super Bowl this year, I encourage you to celebrate with a purpose by stopping by this event which will have some great speakers, musicians and activities.

And for everyone else outside of Dallas, let's pray for protection for all the women and children who are being enslaved for the purpose of trafficking. And when the commercials come on, let's lift up a prayer asking for their freedom and for God to bring justice to the oppressors. Instead of just praying for your favorite team to win, let's pray for the true underdogs to win - the silent voices of the women and children in need of our help. Let's pray for Team Justice to win this Super Bowl Sunday. Let's put an end to the Super Bowl traffick.

2011.01.23 [1 Year with Jesus]

Happy "One Year with Jesus", Princess Emma (2011.01.23). Can't wait to hold your hand again as you show me your favorite places in heaven. Until then Daddy's going to keep running his race with all his might for Christ and His Kingdom. I'll see you at the finish line. [Revelation 21:4]
